Over the last 10 years

What it is

The extra Italy pays over Germany to borrow. Often the first gauge of stress in the euro area. Italian 10-year bond yield minus the German one, in basis points. Part of the theme "Europe": What matters to a euro investor: risk premiums, ECB rates, Euribor and the euro against the dollar.

How to read it

Higher means more risk. The colour compares today’s value with the indicator’s own last 10 years: "Good" is the most favourable third of its history, "Poor" the most strained. It describes the present and anticipates nothing.
